Judoists competed in traditional New Year’s tournament in Krasnodar

Over 150 young judoists from the Southern and North Caucasian Federal Districts competed on mats for the title of the best team in first competition of the new year. The tournament is for athletes under 14.

Over ten years the New Year’s traditional sports event attracts specialists from various regions of the country. They review perspective children — future hopes of the Russian judo. This tournament has become an excellent sports tradition of our city, — Chief of municipal department of physical training and sports Anatoly Miroshnikov said.

Distinguished guests visited the event to encourage young sportsmen. Among them were renowned Krasnodar judoist and sambist, European and World champion Alexander Konovalov, dean of sports of Kuban State University of Physic Education, Sport and Tourism Yusuf Skhalyakho, ex-world champion in boxing Dmitry Pirog, Head of the Advisory Board of Krasnodar judo club “Olymp” Oleg Popov.

The New Year’s judo tournament has been held in the capital of Kuban since 2007. Initiators of the event were Krasnodar judo club “Olymp” and municipal department of physical training and sports. Organizers of traditional judo tournament are the sport federations of regions of the North Caucasus, businessmen, deputies of Krasnodar Region Legislative Assembly.
