Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cyprus to the Russian Federation Mr. Andreas Zinonos arrived in the regional center on an official visit. At the City Hall he was greeted by the mayor of Krasnodar Mr.Evgeny Pervyshov and the chairman of the city Duma Mrs.Vera Galushko. Joint projects which connect Krasnodar and Larnaca were discussed - partnership between the cities began two years ago.
Several projects have already been worked out in the field of tourism, education, culture and sports.
As soon as the epidemiological situation allows, we will begin the active phase of their implementation. This is, first of all, an English school for our schoolchildren. Another important aspect is the development of economic ties. We have already signed an agreement between the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of our cities and, of course, we look forward to fruitful cooperation for both sides. I am confident that Krasnodar and Larnaca will make their significant contribution to the development of international relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Cyprus. Our partnerships are built on “people's diplomacy”, the desire of people to be friends and get to know each other better, - said Mr. Evgeny Pervyshov.
He also said that now the first delegation of Krasnodar journalists is being formed, which will visit Cyprus in October to get acquainted with the economic and tourist potential of the island. The project is being implemented in cooperation with the Larnaca Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The reception was also attended by the Consul General of the Republic of Cyprus in Krasnodar Mr. Elias Mavrokefalos and the first deputy mayor of the city Mr.Evgeny Naumov.
Mr.Andreas Zinonos thanked the mayor of the city for the meeting, noting that the historical, cultural, political and economic relations between Russia and Cyprus have a long history and strong foundation.
Relations between Russia and Cyprus have been building for centuries. How they will develop further depends on us as well. Now that everything is returning to everyday life after the pandemic, I came here to exchange views on further prospects for strengthening our relationship. I am especially glad for the understanding that has developed between Krasnodar and Larnaca. These two cities are similar to each other: both are developing successfully, while both have great potential that needs to be used. I am sure that in relations between the cities there will be every opportunity for the exchange of views, opinions, proposals for the implementation of interesting and mutually beneficial joint projects, - said Mr.Andreas Zinonos.
As Mrs.Vera Galushko noted, it is symbolic that the meeting is being held on the eve of the 228th anniversary of the founding of Yekaterinodar-Krasnodar. She spoke about the work of the City Duma deputies, about the most important directions of the city development, which are implemented jointly by the executive and representative authorities.
Krasnodar is a very attractive city, and many people want to move here from other regions. Our population is constantly growing, including children. Therefore, we are building new schools and kindergartens. Perhaps not as fast as the population is growing. But we try to do everything that depends on us. I would like to note that the interaction between the executive and representative authorities in Krasnodar is very close. We have different ways of achieving, but the task is the same - to improve the quality of life of citizens, to develop our city, to make it even more comfortable and beautiful, - said Mrs.Vera Galushko.
An agreement on the establishment of partnerships between Krasnodar and Larnaca was signed in September 2019 as part of the reception of foreign delegations on the occasion of the celebration of the City-Day of Krasnodar. The document was signed by the mayor of Krasnodar, Mr.Evgeny Pervyshov, and a member of the Larnaca City Council, Mr. Gabriel Charalambos. In October of the same year, the agreement was signed on the territory of Larnaca. This time from the Cypriot side, the signature was put by the Mayor of Larnaca, Mr. Andreas Vyras.
In May 2021 Krasnodar and Larnaca signed a business cooperation agreement. The document provides for the development of trade and relations, contacts in the field of industry, small and medium businesses. There are also plans to implement joint projects in the field of sports, tourism and culture.
